You have heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say to you, anyone who stares at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body

thrown into Gehenna.

                    —Matt 5:27-29 ISV

Biblical Basics in Divorce and Remarriage, part 2

Guiltless party is not bound:

Num 5:12-31 One party is normally guilty in adultery. The other does not need to bear guilt.

1 Cor 7:15 “is not under bondage,” that is, not bound to that marriage if the unbelieving spouse leaves. It is effectively ready to be dissolved, following the laws of the land (meaning, divorce proceedings), unless reconciliation can be obtained under the guidelines of Deut 24:3-4 and 1 Cor 7:11.

Reasons allowed for divorce and remarriage:

1.  Sexual immorality (fornication, Heb. “Zanah,” Jer 3:1;

Hos 2:5; Amos 7:17), which includes, but is not limi-

        ted to, adultery.

2.    Death of the spouse, 1 Cor 7:39.

3.  “...if the unbelieving depart (divorces)”…, 1Cor 7:15.

Questions for those who believe baptism does not correct the sin of adultery that previous divorces and remarriages may have caused:

Why defile worship by being with those who openly live in adultery? If indeed

they are living in it. Are they not to be put out of the Assembly (1 Cor 5:2)?

Doesn’t the heavenly Father have the right to annul any previous oaths/

      covenants (Num 30:5, 12)?

Is there any sin (even adultery from a broken vow) that cannot be forgiven

(Lev 5:4-6) through baptism and faith in Yahshua (Acts 2:38)?  Doesn’t the

burial of the old unclean person, give birth to the clean or rather cleaned

(past tense) person (2 Cor 5:17)?

How was Paul, of his own admission, being the “chief” (1 Tim 1:15) sinner

among “all,” allowed to lead the members, if he wasn’t completely forgiven

       of “all” previous transgressions?

The conclusion concerning elders in the faith is, if they’re married, their wife (singular) is to be in the faith also:

1 Cor 9:5 The Apostle/Elder Paul specifically said “believing” wife.

Titus 1:6 “believing” children suggests a product of a “believing” mother.

1 Cor 7:39; 2 Cor 6:14 An elder is to be an example (above reproach, 1 Tim 3:2)

to the body, in word and action. No one is to look back at a prospective

elder’s former history before baptism and say, “They cannot serve in that pos-

ition, because they divorced and remarried before they came into the body

     of Messiah.”

Let marriage be kept honorable in every way, and the marriage bed undefiled. For Elohim will judge those who commit sexual sins, especially those who

commit adultery.

                      —Heb 13:4 ISV

Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread
With Passover (April 10th, observed the evening before) and Days of Unleavened Bread coming up (April 11th –17th ), the following list of basic ingredients would be best avoided during that time. Not all are scriptural leavening agents, but do “puff up”.

Leaven

Yeast

Sodium Bicarbonate

Potassium Bicarbonate

Baking Soda

Baking Powder

Such things as unleavened crackers are perfect to use for Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread.  It should be mentioned that many vitamin products have yeast, so be sure to check the labels. Now is the time to prepare, so as not to have a lot of products to throw out.

Ministerial Trip to Washington and Oregon
Elder John and Liz Fisher will be visiting with family and prospective members of Yahweh's Assembly in Yahshua (YAIY) located in Washington and Oregon in April, 2009. They will be leaving April 6 to visit family in Olympia, WA., and will travel to the city of Riddle, OR., to baptize Donna Padilla and possibly others she has been meeting with. The Fishers will be returning on April 19. If you wish to meet with them during this journey, please call YAIY at (573) 642-4100 or Elder John Fisher at (573) 826-1191.

Obituary of Brother in Messiah, Pieter Ott
Pieter lived at Fairdealing, Mo and was 97 at the time of his death. He was very mechanically minded and a great fixer upper. During World War II he and his wife, Jacoba, were separated as Japanese POWs. He was very protective of his wife, who passed away in 2004. What a joy it will be when, after the resurrection(s), when those that loved each other so dearly will once again be able to acknowledge one another.

Obituary of Supporter, Gene Ammons
Gene Ammons, a long time supporter of YAIY, has recently passed away. He died of cancer. Sister Carrie is missing his phone calls already, as he would call to encourage us and to say, “Hi.” We’d ask that you keep his wife, Shirley Ammons, in your prayers.

YAIY First Prisoner Visit
It is not necessarily earth shattering news, but we’ve recently been able to visit a local prisoner just 12 miles from our location. We’ve made attempts to visit others in the past that have contacted us, but the constant transfers that some prisoners experience and the long distance to most of the prisons, has just not allowed us to be very active in this particular area of outreach. We provide chaplains with literature for distribution and we send regular DVDs and CDs where allowed, but we can really appreciate those that visit prisons regularly in person, as it is surely a need for those that may have no other communication with the body of Messiah, except through regular or occasional visits from other brothers or sisters in the faith of Yahshua.

Man Made Rules Written in History

“In the course of the third century the Roman practice gained ground everywhere in the East, and, to anticipate the result, was established by the council of Nicaea in 325 [C.E.] as the law of the whole church. This council considered it unbecoming, in Christians to follow the usage of the unbelieving, hostile Jews, and ordained that Easter should always be celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon succeeding the vernal equinox (March 21), and always after the Jewish Passover. If the full moon occurs on a Sunday, Easter-day is the Sunday after. By this arrangement Easter may take place as early as March 22, or as late as April 25.” – History of the Christian Church, Schaff, P., & Schaff, D. S. (1997).

In the above we see the following:

1.  Anti-Semitism.

2.  Man-made calendar rules.

3.  False days of worship implemented, with disregard to “Yahweh’s Passover,” Lev 23:5.

4.  Shows the unscriptural power and influence of a religious organization.

Budgeting for Yahshua’s Return

Budgeting is going to be crucial for many in the current economic downward spiral. Thanks to Yahweh, those  who’ve been paying attention to His commands recognize the benefits of setting aside tithes and offerings. They help one to budget. It’s certainly a good thing to know what is going where. It allows one to even save for the future, though we know that storing up treasure in heaven is where real lasting wealth is kept.

Keeping Yahweh’s instructions are for our benefit and with obedience comes blessings, Lev 26; Deut 28-30:19.  Those close to Yahweh will be provided for. That is an assurance, better than any insurance policy can provide. The future for those that love Yahweh will indeed be a bright one, even though they may go through  some difficult times.

The pattern of “up and down” is not uncommon and we will most likely see, in a few years, a resurgence on the upside from the downside. While there will be those that hold up their signs of “gloom and doom,” we must remember that there may be more time than we think, before Yahshua returns.

Good times or bad, economic prosperity or downward spiral, we are to live our lives after the pattern Yahshua left for us, in obedience to Yahweh, today.  Don’t wait to start tithing to Yahweh, don’t wait to be keeping the Feasts to Him, don’t put off the  spiritual life Yahweh expects His children to be living today. Otherwise, when tribulation really does come, it may be too late, Matt 24:36-39. Budget your finances and time with Yahweh in mind, first and foremost.

YAIY Changes to Save Money

Many companies of recent are streamlining, trying to cut costs, while maintaining quality services and goods. Yahweh is helping us to do the same. Recently we’ve switched our hosting and domain services to combine them at one server. This will save us hundreds of dollars over time.

We’ve also taken the YAIY Beacon magazine and have handed it over to a 100+ year old company that promises to save us, not hundreds, but thousands of dollars over the next few years. We were surprised to get a bid that actually puts the overall costs lower than if we were to do things in-house. The next March-April Issue will be from this new printer.  If their service and quality stays satisfactory we will most likely be with them long term.

Maintenance Fund Question

It was recently asked what the Maintenance Fund was for and if it had something to do with the newsletters. Yes, in part, for the continued distribution of the newsletters, but also the in-depth booklets, mini-studies, etc.  For example, we had to replace the rollers on the press last year at a cost that was roughly $1500. Hence, the reason we thought it best to start the Maintenance Fund. Equipment, especially with moving parts, will always need regular upkeep.

The 15 bin collator we have is in need of new rollers, brushes, and upgraded guides, but we’ve been holding off on doing any maintenance to it. To keep it running, we were forced to replace an electronic circuit board that went out on it this last year. We also ran the last of our un-collated  Biblical Holy Days booklet by completely bypassing the collating bins, choosing rather to collate by hand and then feeding them through the stitch feeder which folded and stapled them. We did this due to so many miss feeds we were seeing doing it the other way. New rollers and brushes, should fix the problem. We were quoted $2500 by a certified technician from Chicago, IL., so we will probably work on it ourselves. But the parts still need to be purchased first.

Besides getting the collator  to work better and maintaining things like our press, ideally we would like to acquire  three or four professional quality video cameras to replace the two older ones we have. One of the cameras is over 20 years old. We thought we had some brand new ones picked out for less than $1000 each, but were warned not to get them as they were stripped down models. We’ve seen some low hour video cameras advertised, that are less than 5 years old, and we’re thinking that may be the way we go. They’re still a minimum of $1500 each.

We want to thank everyone who has kept us in prayer along with the Maintenance Fund. It is set apart from the other General Fund account, even being at another bank, to assure we have regular funds for operational costs such as postage, paper, ink/toner, DVDs, etc.
