JOSEPH

(by Micaela Avalos, Age 10)

There was a young boy named Joseph.  He was the son of Jacob and Rachel.  Jacob,  Rachel, and Leah (the other wife of Jacob) were distant cousins.  One day, Jacob told Joseph to find his brothers and bring him a report.  Joseph was 17 or 18 at the time.  He went to Shechem, but did not see them.  A man saw Joseph and told him that his brothers went to Dothan.  When his brothers saw him, they whispered, “There is the dreamer.”  For they remembered the dream that he had earlier.  They were bounding sheaves in the field.  Their sheaves bowed down to his.  Then he had a dream that eleven stars, the sun and moon bowed down to him.  And way before that, how Jacob gave Joseph a coat of many colors.  Now they were especially jealous of him.

They planned to kill him.  However, Reuben said to just put him in a pit, because he secretly planned to save him.  They stripped off his coat and threw him in the pit.  As they sat down to eat, Reuben left.  Then the brothers saw some merchants .  They realized this was their chance.  So Judah said to sell him as a slave for twelve pieces of silver.  Then Reuben came back.  When he didn’t see Joseph in the pit, he cried, “What will we do!  The boy is gone.”  So they took his coat and dipped it in a goat’s blood.  Then thay showed it to Jacob.  He guessed that Joseph was dead.

Meanwhile, Joseph was sold in Egypt to Potiphar, Pharaoh’s captain of the guard.  But one day, Joseph was falsely accused and thrown into prison.  Soon ,though, he found favor in the sight of Yahweh, and the jailer put him in charge of two prisoners.       Now Pharaoh was angry at his chief baker and his chief butler.  One night they each had a strange dream. Joseph interpreted  their dreams and it happened like hesaid.  Later, Pharaoh had a strange dream.

...Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man…

  —Gen 39:2

He called Joseph out of prison and told him the dream.  Joseph interpreted it and it happened as he said.  Joseph was made Prime Minister of Egypt.  Soon Jacob’s sons came to Egypt and Joseph told them he was their brother.  Jacob and Joseph were reunited and lived peacefully in the land. (Can be found in Genesis 37-50)

Who was Paul?

Paul grew up in the city of Tarsus.  When he was young, he studied in Jerusalem with a very famous teacher named Gamaliel.  Paul was one of the most knowledgeable youth at the temple.  Before his conversion, Paul severely persecuted people who had believed in Yahshua.  The first believers were very fearful of Paul, because he would search for them wherever they hid and sometimes caused them to be thrown in prison or even killed.

When Paul heard that there were many believers in Damascus, he planned to go there and persecute them.  But big changes were about to occur in Paul’s life.  As he travelled, a bright light blinded him and he heard a voice saying, “Paul, why are you persecuting me?”

“Who are you?” Paul cried out.  He must have been terrified!

“I am Yahshua—-the one you are hurting!  Go to Damascus—-you will meet someone there.”

So Paul obeyed Yahshua’s instructions and met a man named Ananias.  He was healed of his blindness and from that day forward he followed Yahshua!
