Q.  If there is a Mighty One, why does He allow such terrible suffering in our world?

A.  This question was posed to us through our email, and is a common one asked by those who question the existence of a Heavenly Father.
Yahweh’s answer is found in Deuteronomy 31:17:
“Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our Elohim is not among us?
Rather than blaming Yahweh for the evils that we create, we need to blame ourselves. This world has rejected Him, and because of that we suffer daily the consequences of our own sins. Down through history the teaching has been the same—sin produces pain and suffering. And still man has not learned the lesson. By his rebellion and rejection of Yahweh, he prefers the pain and suffering.
The basic problem is that we are sinful and need to repent of our sin against our Creator, turn back to Yahweh, and be blessed. Unwilling to humble ourselves and do that, we will continue to suffer from the evils that our rejection of Him produces.
For His part, Yahweh allows man to make a mess of his life to demonstrate the simple fact that the way of happiness man does not know. Defying Yahweh produces its own harsh, difficult lessons.
An unregenerate heart rarely sees itself as the problem, but typically blames someone else.  Unable to finger anyone in particular, such as spirit turns against Yahweh, as rebellious Israel did in the wilderness.
Yahweh tells us, “Even from the days of your fathers you are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them.  Return unto me, and I will return unto you, says Yahweh of hosts...” (Mal. 3:7).
If everyone were suddenly to turn back to Yahweh, obeying His laws and precepts, we would have immediate utopia on earth. No armies and no police forces would be needed. Hospitals would close for lack of patients, abortion clinics would shut down for lack of clientele, court houses would be locked up for lack of cases to try, and crime would cease.
Instead of the pain and heartache that are produced by sin, worldwide obedience to Yahweh would bring universal peace and joy. This is the promise Yahweh gave to Israel.  He chose them out of this rebellious world to be a model nation: to show the rest of mankind what keeping His covenant can and will produce – blessings, joy, and prosperity beyond imagination.
Such, in fact, will be the case in the millennial Kingdom just around the corner. People everywhere will obey Yahweh or will suffer the consequences. In other words, the earth will have mandatory joy through forced compliance to Yahweh’s laws.
But even Israel as a nation rejected Him. Therefore, he is now calling individuals—you and me. We can have a part in the promise proposed to those of Israel who would be obedient (Rom. 9 and 11).
The converted individual does not focus on the evils that result from the sin of man – and then blame Yahweh for them. Rather, he looks to the blessings he receives personally by walking in the paths of truth while obeying the One he worships.
